So, I intuitively did what you suggest, which is to play with scraps and tension and stitch settings. I learned by practicing just where the fabric needs to sit to run through the machine so it doesn't cut into my seam allowance, how fast to let the machine go, and more. Now I love my serger. I can't imagine sewing without one.

Great tutorial.Clairehttp://littlemis.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4494127990881957323.post-10659952913386185722007-06-28T20:48:00.000-05:002007-06-28T20:48:00.000-05:00This is sooo helpful! I have an Elna 945 with a vast array of stitches available to me and all I'm comfortable using is the three or four stitch option. I'm printing this out and will take your suggestion to play with it.Sharonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09987831277077411438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4494127990881957323.post-40636447125527730492007-06-28T19:33:00.000-05:002007-06-28T19:33:00.000-05:00I've ordered the Serging Fine Fabrics a few weeks ...I've ordered the Serging Fine Fabrics a few weeks ago but the delivery was delayed until August... I can't wait to get it!
You're right, most thread breakage problems are caused by incorrect placement of the loopers' thread when threading from scratch. My serger's manual doesn't point out this detail; I found it well illustrated in "The Complete Serger Handbook" by Chris James (I recommend it for the beginner).Tanyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01073735708031525696noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4494127990881957323.post-1842058536266814022007-06-28T19:23:00.000-05:002007-06-28T19:23:00.000-05:00I just got back from the library w/ "the complete ...I just got back from the library w/ "the complete serger handbook" and now I read this.
