It feels good to finish any project, but it feels better to finish a project that's taken a bit more effort (and money) than average. This is the kimono wrap top, McCall's 5233, that I started several weeks ago.
I wore this top last night to our local ASG meeting with some black capris and sparkly flip flops (are there any other kind?) I neglected work all day long to get it done in time.As you can see now, the bands are smooth on both sides. I also ended up taking out much of the width I'd added in the waist and hips areas during pattern alteration.
As I took in the sides at hip and waist, I kept going right up under the arms and sleeves all the way to the ends of the sleeves. This made that underarm area a bit less voluminous.
I did enjoy wearing this top after all. It feels like a little bit of casual luxury.

That looks great!I want to make one for my friend.I love the color.
Great kimono wrap Dawn. Are you featuring it on Uma, Suzie, Nina or Gerlinde? I bet it's Suzie :)
Only one word: FABULOUS!
this turned out great
That looks marvelous. It's so hip and elegant looking. I feel like I could find that at Anthropologie for $150.
Yes, Anna, that's Suzie.
Suzie came with her name since I bought her at a tag sale. Her full name is Suzie Singer.
beautiful! It really looks luxurious
Beautiful. I love the Asian print fabric. I have a shorter kimono top that I made (I think another McCalls pattern) and indeed wearing it feels luxurious.
Love it!!!!
Thanks for leaving the first comment on my new blog! I've been lurking, reading everyone else's blog for quite a few months now, so I thought I'd give it a try myself.
I love your kimono wrap - what a beautiful and comfy garment to wear! I'm sure it just made you feel elegant.
Congratulations on getting it done! It turned out beautiful!!
Lovely - at least you got to wear it out and show it off!
Absolutely lovely!!
Oh, how gorgeous!! I wish there was a picture of it with the black capris and sparkly flip flops but imagine you looked like quite the cat's meow!
Dawn, it is stunning! What a great choice of fabric and contrasting band. It looks comfortable at the same time as being classy.
Dawn,
This is a really luxurious looking wrap with kind of a semi duro look. I love the fabrics you choose, and your attention to detail with the crafting of this garment is really evident. Very nice! Is this the Simplicity kimono pattern? I am wondering if you had to remove any fullness from the bands or the neckline to get a good fit with the bands or remove gaposis?
Carolyndh,
This is McCall's 5233. I did remove about an inch under the arms by sewing it out towards the end of the process. I also did ease the front neckline to prevent gaposis (and to prevent stretching) by stitching through just the one layer of the crinkled silk. It eased up readily since it's lightweight.
